Oklahoma Contemporary is an interdisciplinary arts center dedicated to fostering creativity through free exhibitions, performances, public programs, and year-round education. I led the UX design process for the organization’s new website from discovery through handoff, collaborating with the team at Ghost to create a more welcoming and intuitive digital experience that better serves its wide range of audiences, from students and families to donors and community members.

Challenge

The organization needed a cleaner, more accessible site that reflected its community-driven mission. Important information about exhibitions, classes, and events was hard to find, and visitors — from parents exploring camps to adults registering for workshops and donors looking to get involved —lacked clear paths to take action.

Solution

A major focus of the redesign was simplifying navigation and improving discoverability of key content. The previous sidebar menu was replaced with a top-level navigation system and custom mega menus that organize content by audience and intent, making it easier to explore exhibitions, programs, and opportunities to support the organization. I designed several custom page types during the UX process, including a flexible exhibition template with tab-based navigation for curatorial content, related programming, and exhibition-specific shop products integrated with the Contemporary’s Shopify storefront. The calendar was redesigned with robust filtering and search capabilities to help users quickly browse events, classes, camps, and programs, while donation and membership opportunities were made more visible throughout the site. Together, these updates created a more intuitive and accessible experience that better reflects Oklahoma Contemporary’s mission and encourages deeper engagement across the organization’s programming.
